It's not like riding a bicycle

I am so out of practice with shooting macros, and I found out the other day that it is definitely NOT like riding a bicycle. I ended up having to scrap quite a few files simply because my focus was crummy.

These itty bitty flowers are from a huge old jade plant. It is taller than I am and was started from a cutting in 1916! I never even knew that jade plants flowered at all, and the plant at the conservatory was covered with thousands of them. It was quite a sight!

For me :)

So, what do I shoot when I have some down time? Well lately there hasn't been much of it, that's for sure! These are from a month ago, and I finally got them edited this morning. I have a vision of what I'd like these to be, and they fall a little short, but thankfully this model is quite cooperative, and happens to share my life with me, so we'll give it another go soon :)

I think the black and white is going to get printed LARGE!

Sisters • Seattle Child Photography

I thoroughly enjoyed my morning with this family! Even though 6 week old Ruby took about two hours to settle, mom didn't get flustered one bit (or at least she didn't show it if she did). Then big sister Ramona and her Grandma arrived for her photo op with baby sister. I usually prefer not to photograph toddlers in a studio setting if I can help it, as they tend to be...well...bored quickly. Understandably, they aren't all that interested in the process. Ramona was the antithesis of the typical toddler, eager to please and unbelievably cooperative. Had it not been past lunchtime, and closing in quickly on nap time, I would have loved to have continued for a while longer :)

Here's a little sneak peek, I'll email as soon as your proofs are ready!

Brrrrrr, the coldest morning of the year • Seattle Child Photography

This family braved icy roads and very cold temps in order to make our morning session. Thank goodness for Mom and Dad at the ready with hot chocolate, snacks, and warm jackets! While our session was cut short due to cold kiddos starting to turn into little ice cube sculptures, I think we managed to capture some adorable pictures just the same:

Baby Otis • Seattle Baby Photography

Boy am I behind on sneak peeks - it's an awfully busy time of year! This little 12 day old cutie was an "I'm going to stay awake" baby for most of his session, but did manage to doze off just a few minutes before his big sister arrived to have some photos with him! What a lovely family, I enjoyed meeting you all!

I love all the detail a macro lens captures. Doesn't he just have the most perfect little face?
