Hollyhock

Nice and calm...totally different than how I'm feeling inside!

I am starting (ok, more than starting) to freak out just a little bit about the move. The new house is half the size of this one, which is what we WANTED. However, I started packing up the kitchen today and am wondering where the heck am I going to put this stuff?!? We have a small kitchen in our current house, so we don't have a lot of extraneous "stuff" but even still it's going to be tough. Our new kitchen (which is totally open to both the dining room and living room has only 4 (yes 4) upper cabinets!!! WHAT WERE WE THINKING? We've yard-saled and given away a ton of stuff, but seriously, where am I going to put the rest of this?

I did FINALLY get Colin out of denial today and he started packing up his room a bit, thank goodness! That's a chore simply because some of it is going into suitcases for Michigan and some into boxes for his new room. But, he's not sorting as well as I think he should and I have a sneaking suspicion that the night before he leaves for college he's going to be frantically throwing stuff he wants in Michigan into boxes. UGH.

Y'all tired of hearing me complain about this move yet? I know in the end it'll be ok, I really do. And a year from now this will only be a little blip in our lives, but I still can't help myself. I also wonder if I shouldn't be further along with the packing by now? Hopefully it won't be a mad rush the night or two before the movers show up!!!

Nicely overcast and I love the color on these daylilies....

...so I grabbed my camera and took a few quick shots. I can't WAIT until next spring/summer when I'll have the time and energy to shoot to my heart's content. Last summer I was shooting almost every day and I really miss it!

Do you have a preference of horizontal or vertical?

Busy as a....

BEE. Yesterday was the first time I had done any shooting for weeks :(

Our house sold a couple of weeks ago, and that same night we made an offer on a new house (which is half this size). So, the plan is to move the end of this month however, we're waiting to hear if our new house will be ready on time. We're supposed to close on it on the 29th, but I got a call the other day that it may not be ready. So, we could end up homeless for a while...ugh!

Add C having his wisdom teeth out on the 31st, leaving for college in 5 weeks (and trying to get all that stuff in hand), him working 25-30 hours a week at Starbucks as well as in rehearsal for a show that opens next week, and other stuff and I feel like things are a little out of control. Plus (understandably so) he's feeling a little displaced by all this. He'll move out of the only house he's ever known, and then leave for college a short while later so he won't even have a chance to settle in and have it feel homey before he leaves. I really feel for him, it's going to be tough for sure.

We're also having the "mother of all yard sales part 2" (part one was a few weeks before the house went up for sale) this weekend.

It's odd living in this state of limbo, the house is half empty. And this yard which I have been soooo eager to get out from under (due to the amount of work it is) actually is something that is giving me comfort right now. Working out there pruning, watering, dead-heading is soothing. Odd, isn't it?

Thankfully we ARE looking forward to this move - hard to believe after all that whining, isn't it? We really like the area of the city we're moving to, it's very vibrant and VERY different from where we've lived the past 18+ years. I love idea of the amount of freedom we'll have in our lives by downsizing and look forward to simplifying our lives substantially. Everyone we've met in our neighborhood has gone out of their way to be friendly and hospitable to us. We visited 6 times before making an offer, we just wanted to be as sure as we could be that this was the right move for us.

Anyhow, if you don't hear from me for a while (I know I've been so sporadic about posting the last few months) all is well. Come September when things settle down I'm sure I'll be updating lots. Thanks for visiting!
